How to Stay Rooted During the Hustle and Bustle of the School Year
Here in Minnesota, days are shorter and temperatures are starting to drop. Even though the change of seasons is fast approaching, that doesn’t mean kids can’t stay connected to nature. Check out these 5 EASY ways to help your kids continue to explore the outdoors this fall.
Challenges- Everyone loves a challenge. Hang up a calendar of activities or challenge your child to be outside for a certain amount of time per day. You could even find seasonal scavenger hunts to complete together as a family.
Picnic meal- Between running from activity to activity, stop by a park and set up a picnic. It would save you money and time while creating special memories with your kids.
Sit and Listen- Whether it is solo or with a parent, sitting quietly in nature for an extended period of time creates an opportunity to experience all the “noise” of the scene. It really helps observation skills while one listens and interprets the sounds along with watching for animal clues. Keep it simple! “What do you hear? Who is making that sound? How is the sound being created? Why is the sound being made?”
Fall festivities- Find family friendly events at a local apple orchard, pumpkin patch, or even a PWR camp.
Outdoor Schoolwork- Transition into school by taking it outside. Whether it is homeschool lessons or homework, being outside during this learning time will decrease stress and provide a more relaxing environment for your child to learn in.
Whatever gets you and your family outside, create new memories and traditions that will instill a love for what nature has to offer.
Enjoy the break from all the hustle and bustle of the school year!
