Small Steps, Big Impact - Essential Skills for Preschoolers in Group Settings

As we eagerly anticipate the arrival of another summer season, we are thrilled to share incredible opportunities awaiting for our pre-schooled aged campers. While our program promises an abundance of fun and games, did you know it's also designed to equip children with the skills they need for future structured days ahead? All of this while also fostering a deep connection with the natural world.

Camps open with morning circles where each day begins with the simple yet invaluable practice of introductions and peer-to-peer name learning. This ritual not only sets a positive tone for the day but also cultivates a strong sense of community among our campers, laying the foundation for meaningful friendships and collaboration.

Throughout the day, children will engage in small group rotations, immersing themselves in a diverse array of hands-on activities. From honing their listening and turn-taking skills to mastering the art of sharing, every moment is an opportunity for growth and discovery in our dynamic learning environment.

One highlight is our visit to the animals on campus. Not only does this activity provide a unique opportunity for sensory exploration, but it also teaches important lessons about empathy and caring for living creatures. Plus, visiting the animals encourages teamwork and taking turns as children eagerly await their chance to feed, pet, or observe each animal.

Literacy takes the stage during snack time while we read stories that connect with the daily theme. Through this experience, children will not only strengthen their listening and reading comprehension skills, but also develop a love for reading.

Independence is also a crucial skill that we encourage and nurture during camps. From getting out their snacks to cleaning up after themselves, children learn to take responsibility for their actions and belongings, setting the stage for success both in and out of the classroom.

And let's not forget about exploration time! During this period, children have the opportunity to play, explore, and interact with nature and each other. This unstructured playtime is essential for developing social skills, creativity, and a sense of wonder about the world around them.

As parents and educators, we know just how crucial it is for kids to excel in settings where things are organized and everyone works together. Whether it's playing with friends, spending time with family, joining in on fun early childhood activities, or learning in class, children's success in these situations depends on their ability to self-regulate, do things on their own, keep track of time, and feel comfortable where they are. Join us this summer and let's help your kids grow and strengthen these important skills together!
