The Main Features of PWR
If you look at the drop down menus on our website, you will notice Project Wild Rooted has a few different offerings. The four main categories are Summer Camps, Saturday Camps, School Day Workshops, and Little Wild Roots. The core foundation of all of our classes aligns with our mission which is to create rich experiences, spark life-long learners and create tomorrow's innovators who have a deep appreciation for the natural world around them. Even though camps and workshops have many similar components, each type also has unique things to offer as described below.
Summer and Saturday Camps.
Camps were PWR’s’ first launched offerings in the summer of 2021. The camps are designed to incorporate different types of skill building along with providing a structure to foster environmental stewardship. This is accomplished by holding camps outside, using natural materials, and providing learning opportunities that focus on understanding the world around us. Attending camps are a great way to help kids anchor their learning as they go through different experiences in a fun, safe, and challenging environment. There is no difference in Summer vs. Saturday Camps other than the time of year and day of the week they’re on. Summer camps are held June through mid-August and Saturday Camps are held throughout the remainder of the calendar year.
School Day Workshops
School Day Workshops were created after seeing a need to serve children throughout the week during a typical school day. The School Day Workshops are geared towards children ages 6-12 that have the flexibility in their schedule to attend Project Wild Rooted during the week. Often times online learners, independent learners, or homeschool families will take advantage of these opportunities. School Day Workshops are structured slightly different than camps in that they are more academic based. Workshops provide growth in multiple subject areas like natural science, engineering, art, math, physical education, industrial technology, and literacy. This crosscutting curriculum fosters learning for all types of learners. Many children use this structure as a place to experience hands-on learning through activities, science labs, and construction projects. At the end of each workshop, children take home documentation of the learning targets they hit, the content that was covered, along with ideas on how to extend their learning at home.
Little Wild Roots
The newest addition to PWR is a learning environment for children ages 3 1/2 - 5 which is our Little Wild Roots Program. Little Wild Roots offers a structure for our beginner learners to safely explore and tinker while gaining the experience of social interactions, empathy, communications, and independence. Little Wild Roots originated as single sessions, like our camps, but has now also evolved into a larger program throughout the school year. Every month we will have a focus theme while naturally embedding literacy, math, natural science, creative art, and physical education within each day. This two-day a week option is great as an alternative or an enhancement to traditional preschool classes.
Being a teacher is ingrained in our souls and we will forever follow the mantra, “Do what’s best for kids.” So as our Project keeps growing, so will our options. How can we serve you and your family best?
